Exclusive Interview – Actor Pacharo Mzembe discusses his latest sci-fi film Space/Time

January 12, 2026 by Amie Cranswick

Actor Pacharo Mzembe has become known for his dynamic work across film, television, and theatre—including NBC’s hit series La Brea, Paramount Pictures’ Love and Monsters and Amazon Prime’s Nautilus. His most recent project is Epic Pictures’ sci-fi film Space/Time, which is being released on VOD tomorrow. The official synopsis for the film reads: After a fatal test shuts down their project, a disgraced team of scientists enters the criminal underworld to rebuild a forbidden space-bending engine that could rescue humanity or annihilate it entirely. We spoke with Pacharo about everything from his time on La Brea to the creative process making Space/Time.

You’ve built a diverse career across film, TV, and theatre—what originally sparked your passion for acting?

I have always been drawn to storytelling, whether it’s on the field, court or the stage for me it’s all the same. The opportunity to inspire and have a positive impact on other souls is something that will never leave me.

What drew you to sign onto Space/Time, and what excited you most about being part of a high-concept sci-fi project?

Two words “Michael O’Halloran” was what drew me to sign on. He took me out for a director’s meeting and he pitched me. He sold the story extremely well, but it was the opportunity of working with him that was far more exciting. He’s an absolute visionary and it’s rare to come across those people in life. So if given the opportunity, you must take it.

How would you describe your character in Space/Time, and what makes him compelling within this universe?

Harris is practical and courageous, loving and loyal. He’s there for Liv in their relationship and from the moment he met her he was intentional about it. He’s compelling because of his moral compass and how much he stands by it.

What aspects of your Space/Time character challenged you or pushed you into new territory? Do you have a favorite behind-the-scenes moment from Space/Time?

Compared to the other actors I had it relatively very easy regarding needing to understand the ins and outs of space travel. Both Ash (Liv) and Hugh (Holt) had to have present, future and past selves, I didn’t have to face that challenge. My favourite moment on set was shooting the apartment scenes, which we did in the city shooting multiple days and moments in the one day been creatively lead my Michael, who made it seem seamless.

What’s one lesson from Space/Time that you will carry into future roles?

Anything is possible if you believe and work hard at it. There is always a solution to the problem.

You are also well known for playing Tony Greene in Season 1 of NBC’s La Brea. What can you tell us about working on that show?

La Brea was fun; I made some beautiful friendships which I still hold today. We filmed in Melbourne, Australia during Covid which was challenging. I was in an apartment, isolated unable to return to my home state for 171 Days. It was a real experience lol

There were many directors that worked on La Brea, was there one that you really connected with?

I connected with all of them, but mainly Adam Davidson as he was heavily involved with the show as an EP too.

Looking back, what role or project do you feel shaped you the most as an artist?

I’d say that AMC & AMC+ Nautilus has shaped me greatly as we filmed that on the Gold Coast of Australia for over 297 days. It’s the largest scale production I’d been on, so it was a great opportunity to test everything I’d learnt through all mediums. I made real family on that production.

What are you working on next?

I have a film coming out early 2026 in The Bluff from the Russo Brothers and director Frank E. Flower which I’m excited about. But I’m actually working intensely at my creative-led project house PM Collab Operations (PMCO), which develops and brings to life IP across film, TV, theatre + more. Can’t say too much, but I will be hoping to start filming my first feature film in 2026.

Many thanks to Pacharo Mzembe for taking the time for this interview.
