Adam Sandler to make four movies exclusively for Netflix

October 2, 2014 by Luke Owen

There was a period in time when Adam Sandler produced comedy movies that people wanted to see. But after a long string of comedic duds and box office flops (save for Grown Ups 2 of course), it seems that Sandler’s star has fallen somewhat. However, Netflix have announced that they will be teaming up with Sandler to make four exclusive movies for the streaming service.

Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Officer said, “People love Adam’s films on Netflix and often watch them again and again. His appeal spans across viewers of all ages — everybody has a favourite movie, everyone has a favourite line — not just in the U.S. but all over the world.”

Sandler added, “When these fine people came to me with an offer to make four movies for them, I immediately said yes for one reason and one reason only: Netflix rhymes with ‘wet chicks.’ Let the streaming begin!”

Well, with reasons like that…

Sandler’s Grown Ups 2 took an impressive $246 million worldwide against an $80 million budget, but this year’s Blended, which also put him against his 50 First Dates and The Wedding Singer co-star Drew Barrymore, managed to do less than half that. Sandler features in Men, Women and Children which is showing at the BFI London Film Festival and will star in Pixels next year. Check out the first images from that movie here.
