Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett to write and direct English-language remake of I Saw The Devil

September 16, 2014 by admin

Following yesterday’s story with their plans for You’re Next 2, The Guest writing and directing duo Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett have reportedly been hired for the English-language remake of Kim Jee-Woon’s 2010 South Korean serial killer thriller I Saw the Devil.

The Wrap has learned that, while not officially announced, Barrett has started work on the script and Wingard has been meeting with actors.

Here’s the synopsis from IMDB:

Jang Kyung-chul (Choi Min-sik) is a dangerous psychopath who kills for human meat. He has committed infernal serial murders in diabolic ways that one cannot even imagine and his victims range from young women to even children. The police have chased him for a long time, but were unable to catch him. One day, Joo-yeon, daughter of a retired police chief becomes his prey and is found dead in a horrific state. Her fiancé Soo-hyun (Lee Byung-hun), a top secret agent, decides to track down the murderer himself. He promises himself that he will do everything in his power to take bloody vengeance against the killer, even if it means that he must become a monster himself to get this monstrous and inhumane killer.

Wingard and Barrett’s current movie, The Guest, is out now in the UK and out September 17th in the US. Read our reviews here and here and listen to our podcast interviews with Wingard, Barrett and its stars Maika Monroe and Dan Stevens.
