Age of Darkness: Final Stand launches on Steam early access

October 7, 2021 by Andrew Newton

Get ready to face the nightmare as Team17 and PlaySide Studios announce the release of Age of Darkness: Final Stand on Steam Early Access.  This survival RTS sees players taking on a deadly enemy that threatens the very survival of the human race.

Age of Darkness: Final Stand is set in a dark fantasy world where humanity has been driven into a final stronghold by an enemy known as the Nightmares.  This stronghold has been surrounded by a deadly procedurally generated fog of war called ‘The Veil’ that not only hides the enemy forces but also drains the lifeforce of anyone brave, or foolish, enough to enter it.

In order for humanity to survive, players will need to ensure their stronghold successfully battles its way through a series of five Death Nights where they will encounter hordes of Nightmares that are intent on killing every single human.

Thanks to an internally developed technology known as ‘SwarmTech’, Age of Darkness: Final Stand will allow more than 70,000 enemies to render on screen at any point.

Featuring:

  • Reclaim a procedurally generated world from the nightmarish Veil but be careful as this fog drains the life of those who remain within it.
  • With each Death Night, the game will be modified by a random malice that will test the player’s best laid plans. Malices can include debuffs such as reduced range of defence towers.
  • Heroes will be available to lead the charge against the Nightmares.  These can be key in turning the tide of battle thanks to their unique abilities.  The first hero to arrive in EA is Edwin, a champion of close combat with the ability to unleash powerful fire attacks.
  • Armies can be configured differently thanks to a skill tree for different classes.  These skill trees can allow archers to become invisible or imbue sentinels with life-stealing rage.

Age of Darkness: Final Stand is available on Steam Early Access, priced £17.49/ $21.99/ €21.99.
