Alan Tudyk to return as Clayface in James Gunn’s new DC Universe

November 23, 2024 by EJ Moreno

If there’s one thing we can count on Alan Tudyk for, it’s finding a way to bring his voice-acting talents to life wherever he can, even if that means going from one DC television show to another.

Tudyk has confirmed that he’ll voice Clayface in James Gunn’s new animated show Creature Commandos from Max. He’ll crossover from his debut as the Harley Quinn animated series character.

Speaking with Rotten Tomatoes while promoting the show, Tudyk reveals he’s jumping to this new set of DC canon.

“Harley Quinn is very comedic; it’s straight-up comedy, whereas this one is a drama that is funny that has humorous elements within it, but it is action, and it’s drama and passion. I play Clayface in Harley Quinn and he sounds [puts on Clayface voice] ‘like this and he’s an idiot and he’s always like what’s my motivation here, Daddy didn’t love me’ yeah it’s that.”

Tudyk then compares it to his work in the upcoming DC series: “Then in [Creature Commandos], Clayface is a killer. He’s…we have a huge fight, and he’s a homicidal maniac. So it’s the same character. That’s really cool about DC. I get to play the same character two completely different ways, and I like them both.”

Adding, “It’s really nice that James let me play Clayface [in Creature Commandos]; I was so happy I didn’t even have to ask. I was going to ask when I saw it in there, and he let me know that I got to do it.”

There’s no word on whether Tudyk will come to live-action in the DCU; it’s been reported that some of the stars of Creature Commandos will come to the big screen, including Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. who will appear in both Superman and Peacemaker season 2.

“CREATURE COMMANDOS tracks a secret team of incarcerated monsters recruited for missions deemed too dangerous for humans. When all else fails… they’re your last, worst option.”

Featuring in the cast of Creature Commandos are Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., David Harbour as Frankenstein, Steve Agee as Economos, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana, Anya Chalotra as Circe, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Sean Gunn as GI Robot & Weasel, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, Indira Varma as The Bride, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.

Creature Commandos is set to debut on Max on December 5th and continues through January 9th.
