Alex Kurtzman on the future of Sony’s Spider-Man franchise: “It’s all up for grabs right now”

July 18, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Last week, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 screenwriter Roberto Orci confirmed that he’s no longer involved with the planned threequel to Sony’s rebooted Spider-Man universe, as well as suggesting that the studio’s plans for its Marvel franchise are “yet to be determined”, throwing into doubt those 2016 and 2018 release dates for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4.

Well, Orci’s former writing partner – and director of the proposed Venom spin-off – Alex Kurtzman has echoed those thoughts, stating to Collider that: “[A date for The Amazing Spider-Man 3] is still in conversation. Everybody is still figuring it out. It’s all up for grabs right now. We’re just trying to figure it out. Venom will come after The Sinister Six, I think is the plan… Everything is still on the table right now. Because it’s a universe outside of the Spider-Man universe, even though it’s connected to it, [Venom and The Sinister Six] have to stand on their own. So we’ll see. We’ll see how it goes.”

So, it seems there’s a lot of work to do behind-the-scenes before we get a firm idea of how Sony’s Spidey franchise will play out, but if the studio wants to get a movie into cinemas for 2016, then it’s going to have to act quickly.

How do you think Sony should proceed with its Spider-Man universe?
