Alison Brie to play Evil-Lyn in Masters of the Universe movie

September 5, 2024 by Ricky Church

Amazon MGM and Mattel Films’ Masters of the Universe has found one of its villains as Alison Brie (Apples Never Fall) will star in the film as Evil-Lyn.

Evil-Lyn is “a sorceress with formidable magical abilities, she’s one of the most trusted and powerful allies of He-Man’s nemesis, Skeletor.”

She joins a cast that includes Nicholas Galitzine (The Idea of You) as He-Man and Camila Mendes (Do Revenge) as Teela. Galitzine is Eternia’s Prince Adam who gains the powers of He-Man and becomes the universe’s protector while Mendes’ Teela is a member of the Royal Guard and Adam’s sworn protector.

Masters of the Universe was created in 1984 with the Mattel toyline and later the animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Several more animated series and spin-offs have been made since the original and a live-action film was made in 1987 with Dolph Lundgren starring as He-Man. A new Masters of the Universe live-action film has been attempted to be made over the years, but it has ultimately been in development hell after several writers, directors and actors attached themselves to the project only to drop out for one reason or another.

Brie’s casting is the furthest any Masters of the Universe production has come with three actors now attached to the film. Brie has most recently starred in Apples Never Fall, but is most known for GLOW and Community. On the film side, she has starred in Somebody I Used to Know, Happiest Season, The Five Year Engagement and is set to reprise her Community role as Annie Edison in the long-awaited Community: The Movie.

Masters of the Universe will be directed by Travis Knight (Bumblebee) from a script by Knight’s Kubo and the Two Strings screenwriter Chris Butler. The film is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Escape Artists and Mattel Films.

Masters of the Universe will be released on June 5, 2026.
