Anthony Daniels teases the emotional final scene he shot as C-3PO in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

September 1, 2019 by Samuel Brace

It looks like Anthony Daniels’ days as C-3PO are coming to an end and the actor has teased the final scene he shot for the saga in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

C-3PO is one of Star Wars’ most iconic characters and Anthony Daniels has played the character ever since 1977. But with the Skywalker saga coming to an end with Episode IX, the actor behind C-3PO was quite emotional for his final scene.

Speaking to Variety about the character’s final scene, Daniels said: “It was difficult not to tear up a bit. Partly because J.J. [Abrams] said some really nice things and all the crew were listening and watching. I have to admit it was an emotional moment, but I knew it was coming. It wasn’t even a scene in which I said anything. For once, Threepio was in a scene without butting in. But I felt it’s such a terrific movie that I thought it was okay to say goodbye. I feel satisfied with this one. I have something to be proud of that, you know, as I say goodbye.”

There’s no question Anthony Daniels has had a big role play in the history of Star Wars, and so it’s nice to hear that this moment was recognised on set.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set for release on December 19th 2019 in the UK and December 20th 2019 in North America with J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) directing a cast that includes Star Wars veterans Daisy Ridley (Rey), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata), Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux), Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico), Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca), Billie Lourd (Lieutenant Connix), Greg Grunberg (Snap Wexley), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian) and Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa) as well as new additions Naomi Ackie (Lady Macbeth), Richard E. Grant (Logan), Dominic Monaghan (Lost), and Keri Russell (The Americans).
