Anthony Ippolito is Sylvester Stallone in I Play Rocky first look

October 21, 2025 by Gary Collinson

With production officially underway, Amazon MGM has shared a first-look image from I Play Rocky featuring Anthony Ippolito (The Offer) as a young Sylvester Stallone.

Directed by Peter Farrelly (Green Book), I Play Rocky tells the true story behind the making of the iconic 1976 film Rocky, as aspiring actor Sylvester Stallone took his destiny into his own hands with a screenplay for an underdog sports story that would put him on a pathway to Hollywood superstardom.

The logline for I Play Rocky reads: “The film tells the true story of Sylvester Stallone and his unshakable belief that he wasn’t just meant to write Rocky, he was meant to be Rocky Balboa.”

Along with Anthony Ippolito as Sylvester Stallone, the cast of I Play Rocky includes Stephan James as Carl Weathers, Matt Dillon as Frank Stallone Sr., P.J. Byrne as Irwin Winkler, AnnaSophia Robb as Sasha Czack, Tracy Letts as Sandy Maddox, Toby Kebbell as Robert Chartoff and Jay Duplass as John G. Avildsen.

I Play Rocky is slated for release in 2026.
