Anthony Ippolito to play Al Pacino in making of The Godfather series The Offer

July 24, 2021 by Ricky Church

Deadline brings word Paramount+’s upcoming limited series The Offer has cast Anthony Ippolito (Grand Army) as Al Pacino. The series follows Miles Teller (Top Gun: Maverick) as producer Al Ruddy and the tumultuous events behind the making of The Godfather.

Despite being one of the most critically acclaimed films of all time, The Godfather had a very dramatic behind the scenes story as the real mafia didn’t want the film made, the studio thought Francis Ford Coppola was too inexperienced to direct a film of this scale, arguments were made over the casting, production delays and more. Godfather star Marlon Brando, who would go on to win an Academy Award for his portrayal of family patriarch and mob boss Vito Corleone, even threatened to quit the film should Coppola be fired. Nearly 50 years since its release, The Godfather is still as as renowned as it was then.

The 10-episode series was created by Oscar and Emmy nominee Michael Tolkin, who executive produces and has co-written the series with Nikki Toscano. Toscano will also serve as showrunner. Teller and Ruddy also will serve as executive producers on the series alongside Leslie Grief with Dexter Fletcher (Rocketman) set to direct.

The Offer also stars Matthew Goode (Downton Abbey), Dan Fogler (Fantastic Beasts), Giovanni Ribisi (Sneaky Pete), Colin Hanks (Life in Pieces), Justin Chambers (Grey’s Anatomy), Patrick Gallo (The Irishman), Burn Gorman (The Expanse), Josh Zuckerman (Significant Mother), Meredith Garretson (Resident Alien), Nora Arnezeder (Safe House), Paul McCrane (All Rise), Anthony Skordi (Catch-22), Jake Cannavale (The Mandalorian), James Madio (Jersey Boys), Michael Rispoli (The Deuce), Stephanie Koenig (The Flight Attendant), Lou Ferrigno (The Incredible Hulk), Frank John Hughes (Catch Me If You Can) and Danny Nucci (The Fosters).
