Asteroids: Recharged coming to PC and consoles this month from Atari

December 3, 2021 by Andrew Newton

Atari, working alongside developers Adamvision Studios and SneakyBox Studios, will be releasing Asteroids: Recharged on Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo Switch, Atari VCS and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store on 14th December. This modern revival of the timeless classic will feature both familiar and new challenges, an array of new power-ups and more.  Watch the new trailer below to see Atari’s definitive shooter in action.

Asteroids: Recharged captures all the excitement of the 1979 original then ramps it up with bold new features for today’s gamers, with 30 new and challenging levels, optimisation for widescreen, high refresh rates, a fresh new look and an original synthwave soundtrack composed by award-winning composer Megan McDuffee.

As players weave between shattering asteroids they will be able to pick up a variety of different power-ups, such as defensive Orbiting Bullets, a deflecting Reflector, Mega Lasers and even Side Attacks for covering the ship’s flanks.  Players will still be able to hyperspace to a random spot on the level if they find themselves in a no win spot.

Players will also be able to join in with friends to work together and survive the onslaught of asteroids.

“Asteroids helped revolutionize the arcade scene in the late 70’s with it’s incredible gameplay and novel concept,” said Wade Rosen, CEO, Atari. “With a new, sleek design, powerups, challenges and leaderboard support, Asteroids: Recharged will be a great time for fans of the original and newer gamers looking for a modernized retro fix.”

Asteroids: Recharged is set for release on 14th December.
