Atari to bring 1976 classic Breakout to today’s PC and consoles

February 5, 2025 by Andrew Newton

Atari and developer Choice Provisions have announced they will be giving the classic 1976 game Breakout a brand new look and feel and releasing it on PC and consoles as Breakout Beyond, later this year.  Watch the new trailer below…

Breakout Beyond is a vibrant new reimagining of the classic title and will challenge players to break every brick and breach the wall with score-building combos. This neon-soaked reimagination has been flipped to a new sideways perspective and will provide 72 levels filled with dazzling light shows for players to conquer.

As players break through barriers and build up their combos, there will be special blocks that will provide powerful advantages, such as massive brick-clearing blasts, a protective barrier to shield the ball and a laser cannon that can help blast away the blocks.  Each of these special advantages will release a stunning effect with dazzling visuals.

There’s no need for players to face the 72 levels alone as Breakout Beyond features local two-player co-op allowing players to team up with friends.

Featuring:

  • An unlockable Endless Mode with an online leaderboard.
  • 72 challenging levels.
  • Two-player co-op to double the fun.
  • Procedural audio and visual effects.

Breakout Beyond arrives on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PS4 and Atari VCS later this year.
