Avengers Dead Pool: Who Doesn’t Make It Out of Infinity War Alive?

March 13, 2018 by Anghus Houvouras

Anghus Houvouras on which characters might not make it out of Avengers: Infinity War alive…

We’re a little over a month away from the second most anticipated movie of 2017, Avengers: Infinity War hitting theaters. Fans are at a fevered pitch as Marvel studios brings together 10 years of storytelling into an epic intergalactic showdown between everyone’s favorite heroes and the Infinity Gauntlet-wielding Thanos.

But will everyone make it out alive? Not according to Kevin Feige who says that characters will not only die, but stay dead. So this begs the question: Which of our heroes don’t make it out of Infinity War alive? So let’s get the conversation going with everyone’s favorite gruesome game: the dead pool. I’m going to start with the goners. The characters I believe are done for with a brief explanation of why I think Thanos is going to be punching their ticket to the fictional afterlife.

War Machine – Odds 2-1

Let’s be honest. Dude should have died in Captain America: Civil War. James “Rhodey” Rhodes has been pretty useless ever since Don Cheadle stepped into the role. Cheadle just never felt right to me. Dude’s too chill to play a military guy. Terrance Howard was much better suited for the role. And no matter who has been playing the part, the Robin to Iron Man’s Batman is the kind of throwaway supporting roles that meaningless on-screen deaths were meant for. Speaking of…

Bucky Barnes – Odds 3-1

One of the most compelling characters in the MCU, Bucky’s transformation into the Winter Soldier made for some compelling storytelling. However, he’s also done a lot of reprehensible things that he feels he needs to atone for. What better way to complete a redemption arc than by sacrificing himself to save the world. I know a lot of people are thinking Chris Evans’ Captain America will be transitioning out of the series making room for Bucky-Cap, but I’m thinking Bucky is going to take a dirt nap well before that happens.

Nebula – Odds 3-1

We know that Gamora and Nebula have some beef with Thanos, and that’s going to result in a smackdown in outer space. There’s no way both of Thanos’ daughters are making it out of this alive, and I’m guessing Nebula bites the intergalactic big one fueling Gamora for some hardcore revenge.

Falcon – Odds 4-1

Come on. Dude’s been begging to be killed since he slapped on that half-assed jetpack in Winter Soldier. It’s like taking Hawkeye, strapping a rocket pack on his back and sending him hurling towards Thanos and his army of monsters at 150mph. I don’t see how this ends well for the Falcon. In terms of fictional comic book movie realism, there should be no way Falcon makes it out of this movie alive.

Loki – Odds 10-1

This one is just a gut feeling, but the whole Infinity Stone/Thanos stuff started with Loki in Avengers. Tom Hiddleston’s character has been a standout in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but it feels like a character who could be killed and would actually shock fans. The first three choices feel like the kind of second tier characters that are either easy to dispose of or have been crafted with the need for a little redemption. Loki certainly fits the bill as a character who is constantly shifting allegiances. Does he fight Thanos or join his crusade? Either way, I think Loki’s death would be a surprise and something that fans might not see coming.

Wong – Odds 10-1

While I hope Wong survives the war for the Infinity Gems, he certainly fits the bill as a secondary character who could die without severely impacting the course for these characters going forward. But please don’t. I love Wong.

Okoye – Odds 15-1

This one is tough, because we know now the last third of Infinity War takes place in Wakanda. We’ve seen the final battle teased throughout the trailer and commercials. Black Panther is a monster mega-hit and people love the whole cast. My initial thought is that the entire supporting cast of Black Panther can’t make it out alive. I wouldn’t put money on Lupita Nyong’o exiting the franchise, and I doubt they’re going to be killing of Shuri based on the untapped volumes of stories from the comics. So that means Danai Gurira’s bad-ass Wakanda General might be cannon fodder for the mad Titan.

Iron Fist – 50 – 1

I have no definitive evidence that any of the characters from the Marvel Netflix shows will appear in Infinity War. I just really want the current whiny, terrible incarnation of the character to be horribly and painfully murdered. Let’s make that happen Marvel.

Now I pass the question off to you: Who do you think dies in Avengers: Infinity War?
