Avengers: Endgame writers address its 3-hour runtime

May 1, 2019 by Samuel Brace

The mammoth 3-hour runtime of Avengers: Endgame has been addressed by the film’s writers, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

There is no doubt that Avengers: Endgame was an epic movie experience, in every sense of the word, including its massive 3-hour runtime. Of course, a lot of fans enjoyed this fact but some may have been put off by this indulgence.

What do the film’s writers, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, think about complaints about the film’s runtime? Markus told The New York Times: “There was an agreement within the whole group that we’re going to take our time; we’re not going to cut a half-hour of it so we can get one more screening in per day.”

McFeely added: “We couldn’t! Where are you going to cut a half-hour? There was not a sequence you could cut.”

Markus then said: “Look at some of the most popular movies of all time. They’re long as hell. When people want to see something, it doesn’t seem to get in their way. There’s some short, totally unsuccessful movies, too.”
