Avengers: Infinity War is shaping up to be one of the biggest movies of all time in terms of sheer scale, and it seems that it going to be reflected in the superhero blockbuster’s action sequences.
During an interview with Screen Rant, directors Joe and Anthony Russo were asked about the big ‘splash page’ airport sequence in Captain America: Civil War, and whether we’ll be getting the equivalent of that in Infinity War:
Joe: We have like an equivalent that’s like, you know if you had a comic book and you open it up to your double panel and then you fold it out. And then you folded it out again and again.
Anthony: And you have another comic book laid out next to it.
Joe: So we have the equivalent of that in this movie.
The Russos are presumably referring to the Wakanda battle with their comments here, which apparently takes up the entire final act of the movie. However, it certainly doesn’t look like they’ll be skimping on scale when Iron Man and company do battle with Thanos on Titan either, so it would seem that we’re going to be spoiled with ‘splash page’ moments in Infinity War.

In the same interview, Anthony also went on to address how the stakes are much higher in Infinity War – which makes sense given that the fate of the entire universe rests in the hands of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes:
“We’ll say this. We like mature storytelling. We like dramatic storytelling. We like intense storytelling. I think we appreciate conflict, and we appreciate stakes. And without stakes, there really isn’t a lot of value to the story. And I think if you look at the Marvel [Cinematic] Universe as a whole as a story that’s been told for ten years, you can look at this as the climax. And the stakes will be higher in this movie than they’ve ever been, times ten.”
