Avengers star Mark Ruffalo has an idea for a standalone Hulk movie

April 16, 2020 by Liam Waddington

While Avengers: Endgame tied up many stories for several Marvel Cinematic Universe characters including Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark/Iron Man and Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers/Captain America, the one original Avengers character whose future remains unclear is Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk.

However, in a recent interview with Variety, Ruffalo suggested that he personally had an idea on how to continue Banner’s story in a standalone Hulk movie which includes filling in the blanks between MCU movies.

“There’s an idea that I think could be really interesting,” Ruffalo said. “We’ve never really followed him into his life. He’s always kind of off on the side. He’s like the Rosencrantz and Guildenstern of the Avengers. It’d be interesting to fill in all the blanks about what happened to him in between all these movies.”

While it sounds like Ruffalo is keen to star in his own solo movie, he has been denied the opportunity so far when compared to Eric Bana and Edward Norton’s performances in their respective films. Additionally, with Universal retaining some distribution rights to the character, a standalone movie continues to seem unlikely right now.

Although the future of Mark Ruffalo in the MCU movies is unclear as of right now, the actor has confirmed talks have taken place for a Bruce Banner/Hulk appearance in the upcoming Disney+ series, She-Hulk, as well as lending his voice for the Disney+ animated series, What If?.
