Barbie lands 18 nominations from the 2024 Critics Choice Awards, shockers include Godzilla Minus One and Saltburn

December 13, 2023 by EJ Moreno

The Critics Choice Awards have named their picks for the best films of the year. As the award season picks up, we now have a clearer look at what the landscape will look like as we head toward the 2024 Oscars.

Barbie led in total nominations, scoring 18 overall from the Critics Choice Awards – including Best Picture, Best Director (Greta Gerwig), Best Actress (Margot Robbie), and Best Supporting Actor (Ryan Gosling). It also secured three nominations in the Best Song category alone. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things trail behind Barbie, as they are both tied for 13 nominations.

Some of the biggest shocks and snubs include Natalie Portman (May December) and Annette Bening (Nyad), along with Willem Dafoe (Poor Things), all missing out in their respective categories. Many were shocked to see Saltburn land a Best Picture nomination, even if it missed out on the rest of the ballot. Also, Godzilla Minus One made a shocking, late-in-the-game case for Best Foreign Language Film.
