Benedict Cumberbatch and Jake Gyllenhaal heading to Rio

StudioCanal, Sunnymarch and Nine Stories have announced that Benedict Cumberbatch and Jake Gyllenhaal are set to star in Rio, a psychological thriller directed by Edward Berger (Patrick Melrose, The Terror) from a script by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders, Locke).

The film is described as a psychological thriller which centres on two old friends who meet again in Rio, one a journalist the other a hugely successful financier. It will be produced by Benedict Cumberbatch and Adam Ackland through SunnyMarch and Jake Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker through Nine Stories.

“We are delighted to be working with Ed Berger again on this very special project,” said Cumberbatch and Ackland. “Together with StudioCanal and Nine Stories this promises to be a terrific collaboration, we can’t wait to bring Rio to life”

“Edward Berger’s work is superb,” added Gyllenhaal and Marker. “We are thrilled to be collaborating with him, StudioCanal and Sunny March — an undeniably talented group of filmmakers.”
