Benedict Cumberbatch has some fun with those Batman v Superman rumors

September 10, 2014 by James Garcia

Benedict Cumberbatch is rumored to appear in just about every big-budget blockbuster on the horizon. If talk is to be believed, he’s playing a Sith Lord in Star Wars: Episode VII, Doctor Strange for Marvel Studios, and either Brainiac or Martian Manhunter in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. No wonder we have to wait so long before Sherlock’s fourth season debuts!

Cumberbatch recently refused to deny those Batman v Superman rumors, which of course led to most of the internet interpreting it as confirmation. Cumberbatch is clearly having a bit of fun with the rumor mill, and took things to the next level when speaking with E! Online.

When asked point blank whether or not the Batman v Superman rumors were true, Cumberbatch said: “I think Batman v Superman is going to happen. It’s a film that’s being made.”

When asked whether or not he’d be starring in it, the witty Brit replied: “I’m not at liberty to say whether I’m Batman or Superman.”

This won’t put an end to the rumors, which seems to be exactly what Cumberbatch wants. I’ve got to say though… he would make a great Brainiac…

With or without Cumberbatch, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25th, 2016. The film does already have a cast, which includes Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Gal Gadot, Ray Fisher, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter, and Jason Momoa.
