Benedict Cumberbatch teases Doctor Strange role

November 5, 2014 by Thomas Roach

Benedict Cumberbatch has been rumoured to be the front runner for the role of Doctor Strange in the upcoming 2016 Marvel movie of the same name, and while many expected an announcement during Marvel’s big Phase Three press conference, Kevin Feige said at the time that if someone had been cast in the role they would have revealed it then.

However Cumberbatch appears to have confirmed that he has been approached, judging from an interview he gave to IGN whilst promoting The Imitation Game, where he was asked about the character. At first he jokingly pretends not to know anything about the Sorcerer Supreme, but after being asked “Is that a character you would ever be interested in playing has it ever crossed your path?”, he takes a long drink of water before answering and hiding a smile: “I dunno, maybe. I know a little bit about Doctor Strange, maybe.”

Marvel is very strict with casting announcements and like to make it official themselves. It seems the actor is keeping quiet until negotiations for the role are final. It is important to remember that Doctor Strange will now be released in November 2016 as apposed to July, so that may have been done to accommodate the actor’s busy schedule in 2015.

Do you think Benedict Cumberbatch has been approached for the role, or is he just teasing us? Let us know…
