Billie Lourd’s role will be larger in Star Wars: Episode VIII

March 14, 2016 by Justin Cook

For months leading up to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, one of the many questions fans of the franchise debated over was who Billie Lourd, actress and daughter of Princess Leia herself, Carrie Fisher, would play in the film. Initially, some speculated that she would play a young Leia in a flashback or even Han Solo and Leia’s daughter, but her role ended up being fairly small and inconsequential to the film’s main storyline.

Lourd’s Lieutenant Connix, a woman who works for the Resistance under General Leia, may have only been on screen for a short bit of time, but, according to the actress, she will be back for 2017’s Rian Johnson-directed Star Wars: Episode VIII.

When asked if she will be involved in the next series installment, while on the red carpet for Fox’s Scream Queens at PaleyFest, Lourd answered, “Yes. I can’t say much about it but yes. I am working on Star Wars VIII but that’s all I can say.”

She also confirmed to /Film that her role will be bigger in Episode VIII and there’s a possibility that she’ll have more scenes with her mother.

Star Wars: Episode VIII is set for release on December 15th 2017 and sees returning cast members Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata), Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma), Billie Lourd (Lieutenant Connix) and Andy Serkis (Supreme Leader Snoke) joined by new additions Benicio Del Toro (Guardians of the Galaxy), Laura Dern (Jurassic Park) and Kelly Marie Tran (Ladies Like Us).
