Black Panther: Wakanda Forever resumes production following Letitia Wright’s injury

January 16, 2022 by Amie Cranswick

Having temporarily shut down production back in November to allow time for Shuri actress Letitia Wright to heal from an on-set injury, Marvel Studios has now resumed filming on its superhero sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ahead of the movie’s scheduled release in November.

Wright, whose character Shuri has been elevated to the sequel’s lead following the passing of Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, suffered a fractured shoulder and concussion on the set in August as a result of an accident with a stunt rig. Returning director Ryan Coogler continued to work around Wright’s absence, but the production was put on hiatus following Marvel’s decision to push back its entire slate and shift Wakanda Forever up from July of this year to November.

There had been some question marks over Wright’s continued involvement with the film, given that the British actress had been expressing anti-vaccination views on social media and would require proof of vaccination before returning to the U.S. to continue the shoot. However, THR reports that Wright is already in Atlanta where filming is expected to last around four weeks.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever reunites director Ryan Coogler with Black Panther stars Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke, Lupita Nyong’o, Florence Kasumba, Angela Bassett and Martin Freeman, with Dominique Thorne making her MCU debut as Riri Williams/Ironheart and Michaela Coel and Lake Bell starring in an as-yet-unconfirmed roles.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is scheduled for release on November 11th 2022.
