The Blacklist Season 2 – Episode 1 Review

September 26, 2014 by Gary Collinson

David Fleming reviews the first episode of The Blacklist season 2…

Red is finally back with Blacklist Season 2 just kicked off last Monday night. And we found Red right where we expected to find him… In control. The opening scene brought us right back into Red’s world of everything going crazy around him while he remained cool, calm and collected. As a season starter it hit all the right notes; putting us right back into each of the teams lives. Cooper, recovering physically, Ressler, recovering mentally. Lizzy…. well Lizzy, being strong and focused as we’d expect from our leading heroine.

We’re still wondering what the connection between Red and Lizzy is. Is she his daughter? Who knows! But we are introduced to another lady from Red’s life, his ex-wife. And on top of everything else we are given more questions about some leading character’s pasts. Between all of the intrigue and action it could easily get messy and confusing, but the writers are really pulling it off leaving us with so many story threads we want to follow, that we should have several great story arcs for this season, and we are most likely just touching on other stories that will carry future seasons.

All of the above and I have even mentioned the blacklister from this episode, or the big bad for the season!! Berlin (seems like he will be the big bad for this season), who escaped at the end of Season 1 is still on the loose, and continuing to cause havoc for Red. It’s starting to look like Berlin is Moriarty to Red’s Sherlock as he has been one step ahead of Red so far since he was introduced. Berlin has employed the help of the urban legend Lord Baltimore to gain significant leverage over Red. The team have to find the mysterious Lord Baltimore and try to stop him before he can accomplish his mission. There is definitely some dark past between Berlin and Red, and it’s starting to look like that past could be catching up with the people Red cares most about.

This season certainly has started with a cracking first episode, and if the episode 2 promo is anything to go by, the pace isn’t about to slow down!!

Before you watch season 2 episode 1, I urge you to spend 9 minutes with the Fine Brothers, and watch The Blacklist Season 1 summed up in 9 minutes!
