Breck Eisner exits Karate Kid 2, new writers hired

June 26, 2014 by admin

It was only back in April when Breck Eisner (The Crazies) had signed on to direct a sequel to the reboot of The Karate Kid, but it looks like he has already parted ways according to Deadline. Although it’s not what you’d think, it’s just because of scheduling difficulties. No new director has been announced nor has a shortlist.

In other Karate Kid news, the studio have also hired two new writers to punch up the script. Jeremiah Friedman and Nick Palmer (neither of whom have writing credits to their names) have been brought on to re-write the Karate Kid 2 script which was originally penned by Zak Penn (The Incredible Hulk), Ethan Reiff (Kung Fu Panda) and Cyrus Voris (Bulletproof Monk).

Original stars Jackie Chan (Rush Hour) and Jaden Smith (After Earth) are set to reprise their roles for the sequel, although no plot details have been announced.

The Karate Kid was a remake of the beloved 1984 classic starring Ralph Maccio as Daniel and Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi. Directed by Harald Zwart (The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones) and released in 2010, the movie grossed an impressive $359 million worldwide.

No word yet on the release date for the sequel.

Breck Eisner still remains attached to Lionsgate’s The Last Witch Hunter which stars Vin Diesel (Guardians of the Galaxy).
