Searchlight Pictures has released a trailer and images for Rental Family, the new film from writer-director Hikari (37 Seconds, Beef) and starring Oscar-winner Brendan Fraser (The Whale) as a struggling actor in Tokyo, Japan who finds himself through a rather unusual role that sees him connecting with strangers.
Featuring alongside Fraser in the cast of the comedy drama are Takehiro Hira (Shogun), Mari Yamamoto (Monarch: Legacy of Monsters), Akira Emoto (Shin Godzilla) and newcomer Shannon Gorman. Watch the trailer below…
Set against modern-day Tokyo, RENTAL FAMILY follows an American actor (Brendan Fraser) who struggles to find purpose until he lands an unusual gig: working for a Japanese “rental family” agency, playing stand-in roles for strangers. As he immerses himself in his clients’ worlds, he begins to form genuine bonds that blur the lines between performance and reality. Confronting the moral complexities of his work, he rediscovers purpose, belonging, and the quiet beauty of human connection.
