Bubble Bobble to return exclusively to Nintendo Switch with Bubble Bobble 4 Friends

August 14, 2019 by Andrew Newton

It’s been over 10 years since Bub and Bob of the cult 80’s game series Bubble Bobble was on our screens, but thanks to the original studio TAITO, the series returns exclusively for the Nintendo Switch with Bubble Bobble 4 Friends.  This sequel will be released both digitally and physically in Europe on 19th November, a US release will follow early 2020.  To celebrate the announcement, TAITO has released a new trailer which can be seen below.

Back in the golden years of gaming, Bubble Bobble was one of the titles that everybody had to have if they wanted some great 2 player arcade action and was even great in single player mode.  In the original game, brothers Bub and Bob have been turned into friendly little bubble dragons by the villainous Baron Von Blubba and this wicked magician makes a return in Bubble Bobble 4 Friends.

The info for the sequel reads:

One night, a child’s room became enfolded by a miraculous light and every object under its rays suddenly came to life – including the child’s most favourite toy, the little dragon called Bub. Full of jealousy, the wicked magician Baron von Blubba challenges the friendly dragon to battle.

As with it’s predecessors, Bubble Bobble 4 Friends provides plenty of co-op fun but this time for up to 4 players.

“Bubble Bobble is an extremely popular title in Europe, so we decided to implement a pre-sale in Europe in conjunction with ININ Games and Strictly Limited Games. It is also the first internally developed title since Taito has re-entered the consumer market, and the development team is thrilled to be working on this famous IP. I deeply hope that many people will enjoy it” says Hiroshi Uemura, Executive Officer, Division Manager of Development, TAITO.

Bubble Bobble 4 Friends will arrive digitally and physically in Europe this November.  A collector’s edition of the game will also be available.
