Capcom to take us back to Raccoon City next January with re-imagining of Resident Evil 2

June 12, 2018 by Andrew Newton

At the Sony press conference at E3 2018 veteran developers Capcom unveiled a re-imagining of the classic Resident Evil 2, the first game in the series that took horror fans into the zombie infested nightmare that was Raccoon City.  Originally developed in 1998, Resident Evil 2 became one of the most influential games of all time and introduced some of the franchise’s most loved characters.  Resident Evil 2 will be arriving on Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC in January 2019.  You can see more of this re-imaging in the trailer below…

The re-imaging of  Resident Evil 2 has been completely rebuilt from the ground up adding in breathtakingly realistic visuals, immersive audio and revised controls to take advantage of modern controllers.  Zombies appear every bit as grotesque as they do in TV programs such as The Walking Dead with realistic wet gore effects and they will react in real time as they take visible damage.

The original Resident Evil 2 was scary but watching this latest trailer from the over the shoulder POV of Leon Kennedy in the dimly lit police station is truly terrifying.

“The press and fan reaction to Resident Evil 2 when we said ‘We Do It’ in 2015 has been overwhelming. We’ve been very eager to unveil the new game to the world this week,” said Capcom Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi. “We want fans to see the reimagining of Resident Evil 2 not only captures the magic of the beloved original, but also expands it to deliver a richer experience. The first look at E3 is just a taste of what’s to come.”

Resident Evil 2 will be available for consoles and PC next January but for those attending this year’s E3 visit the Capcom booth in the South Hall, #2223 with a hands on demo opportunity.
