Chamber Works: NieR Automata starts off a new album series by Sean Schafianski

February 24, 2019 by Andrew Newton

Materia Collective, alongside renowned arranger Sean Schafianski, have started a new album series that sees live orchestra paying tribute to some of the greatest game themes.  Kicking off the new series is Chamber Works: NieR Automata, a tribute to the award winning NieR: Automata soundtrack.  This first album in the series is available now as a limited edition CD and digitally via Spotify, Bandcamp and iTunes.

Schafianski is best known for his Remastered Soundtrack series with albums dedicated to games including Secret of Evermore, Final Fantasy Mystic Quest and Breath of Fire III.  This latest series of albums will see performances with the ETHEReal String Orchestra, Videri String Quartet and The Game Brass.

“Each of these themes are arranged to suit chamber ensembles such as one would see in concert settings,” explains arranger Sean Schafianski. “Much of the inspiration for these arrangements comes from my experience with 20th Century music, minimalism and post minimalism-subjects that I studied deeply during my university days. There is a lot to uncover here, including references to Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Samuel Barber, and more. This album was challenging to put together, both from an arrangement and logistical standpoint. All of the musicians did an amazing job, and they deserve all the praise you can give them!”

This album will feature several key themes from the game providing a range of emotions from the melancholy ‘Vague Hope’ to the upbeat ‘Pascal’.   The full track listing for Chamber Works: NieR Automata is as follows:

01. Emil’s Shop
02. Vague Hope – Cold Rain
03. Pascal
04. Copied City
05. Mourning
06. Alien Manifestation
07. The Sound of the End

Chamber Works: NieR Automata is available to enjoy now.
