Chris Hemsworth didn’t want to go back to “the old Thor” in Avengers: Infinity War

March 25, 2018 by Gary Collinson

After reigniting his love for the God of Thunder by reinventing the character with director Taika Waititi in last year’s Thor: Ragnarok, actor Chris Hemsworth has revealed that he was initially concerned about how the character of Thor was going to be portrayed in next month’s Avengers: Infinity War.

“I came into this and called [directors Joe and Anthony Russo] and said, ‘Look, don’t write me the old Thor, we’ve got a new Thor now,’” Hemsworth tells The Daily Telegraph, revealing that the Russos then replied that they had reinvented the God of Thunder all over again: “I was like ‘no, no, no’ and I was really protective of what I’d created with Taika. They then said, ‘No this is a whole different thing; Thor’s never faced something like this, never been a part of this large an ensemble.’ I think for our characters it was difficult but for me a hugely exciting adventure.”

Hemsworth also went on to admit that he felt his performances in The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron weren’t his best, stating that: “I felt stuck about what I was giving there and felt like I probably wasn’t bringing my portion to it as much as I could have.”

As with most of Infinity War, we know very little about what’s in store for the God of Thunder in the film, save that he’ll find himself on the receiving end of an almighty ass whipping from Thanos, before meeting up with the Guardians of the Galaxy [watch that scene here in the first clip]. He’ll also be getting a new weapon Stormbreaker, and you can take a look at that here.

An unprecedented cinematic journey ten years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War” brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time. The Avengers and their Super Hero allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.

Avengers: Infinity War opens on April 27th 2018 and will feature an all-star cast including Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Paul Bettany (Vision), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Josh Brolin (Thanos), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Sean Gunn (Rocket, Kraglin), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Benicio Del Toro (The Collector), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Winston Duke (M’Baku) and Peter Dinklage and Terry Notary in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
