Chris Pratt on his different approach to the music of Awesome Mix Vol. 2

April 20, 2017 by Jordan Jones

If there is one thing that everyone remembers about Guardians of the Galaxy, it’s the music. Seriously, when was the last time you saw people jamming out to the music of Redbone in their car prior to the release of Guardians of the Galaxy? What about The Raspberries? The movie brought ’70s soft/ pop-rock back into the spotlight.

Fans have just been given the full tracklist for Awesome Mix Vol. 2, and it looks to be just as memorable as the last. Now, you may be hoping to see more of Star Lord’s smooth moves in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but not so fast. Chris Pratt is taking a different, and very logical approach to the movies new music. Speaking to CinemaBlend, the actor said this:

“It wasn’t as important for the character to have that ingrained in his brain the same way,” said Pratt. “Because the movie picks up a couple months after the events of the first movie, I would have only had that tape for a couple of months. So I listened to it a couple of times, but otherwise I was allowing myself to really hear it on the day and let it be fresh and new and exciting for me the way it would be for the character.”

Makes sense. Music is never as good as the first time it enters your ears. Before your brain becomes accustomed to the sound. It’s great that Chris Pratt wants to get that genuine experience on film. Let’s just hope he has, at least, a little choreography worked out in his head.

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled for release on April 28th 2017 in the UK and on May 5th in the States, with director James Gunn reuniting with returning cast members Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Michael Rooker (Yondu), Glenn Close (Nova Prime), Sean Gunn (Kraglin) and Laura Haddock (Meredith Quill) alongside new additions Pom Klementieff (Oldboy) as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki (The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) as Ayesha, Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight) as Ego the Living Planet, Chris Sullivan (The Drop) as Taserface, Tommy Flanagan (Sons of Anarchy) as Tulik, Sylvester Stallone (Creed) as Stakar and Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville) in an as-yet-unrevealed role.
