Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Karen Gillan speak out on James Gunn’s firing from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

July 23, 2018 by Gary Collinson

While Marvel Studios was absent from Comic-Con, this past weekend brought some huge news regarding the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Disney firing director James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in relation to some old tweets from the filmmaker where he made offensive jokes about rape and paedophilia.

Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista wasted little time in defending his director and expressing his disappointment at the decision, and now co-stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Karen Gillan have also taken to social media to weigh in on the situation.

“Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters. Let every person be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger.”

It’s been a challenging weekend I’m not gonna lie. I’m pausing myself to take everything in before I speak out of term. I just want everyone to know I love ALL members of my GOTG family. Always will.

— Zoe Saldana (@zoesaldana) July 22, 2018

Love to every single member of my GOTG family.

— Karen Gillan (@karengillan) July 23, 2018

Just to clarify, I'll speak more on this later but just wanted to make sure that was out there. Love to you all.

While Disney’s actions is understandable, the studio has come in for heavy criticism for the decision to fire Gunn, with an online petition urging Disney to rehire the filmmaker having attracted 225,000 signatures at the time of writing. Whether it will have any impact remains to be seen…
