Christopher McQuarrie to direct Star Blazers adaptation

October 30, 2013 by admin

Once he finishes up his directing duties on Mission: Impossible 5, writer-director Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, Jack Reacher) looks set to turn his attention to the 70s anime sci-fi series Star Blazers, with Deadline reporting that the Oscar-winner has signed on to direct a live-action adaptation for Skydance Productions.

Adapted from the Japanese anime series Space Battleship Yamato, Star Blazers was produced by Claster Television and ran for three seasons between 1979 and 1984. The plot revolved a small crew travelling 150,000 light years across space to recover a device that can save humanity from extinction following a radioactive alien attack.

According to Deadline’s report, Skydance is looking at Star Blazers as a potential franchise, and the adaptation is set to be produced by McQuarrie, Josh C. Kline, David Ellison and Dana Goldberg with Shouji Nizhizaki and Paul Schwake executive producing.
