Ciaran Hinds portraying Steppenwolf in Justice League

November 4, 2016 by Gary Collinson

According to The Wrap, Game of Thrones star Ciaran Hinds is portraying the main villain Steppenwolf in Zack Snyder’s Justice League movie, and has already completed his motion capture work as the character.

Steppenwolf featured in a deleted scene from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which was restored for the Ultimate Edition, and saw him in contact with Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor on board the Kryptonian ship. Apparently his design will be overhauled for his appearance in Justice League.

In DC comic book continuity, Steppenwolf is one of the New Gods, an uncle of Darkseid, and the leader of the military of Apokolips.

Hinds does have previous comic book movie experience, having portrayed the villain Mephistopheles in 2012’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League will reunite Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Mamoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor alongside J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard (The Danish Girl) as Mera, Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) as Vulko, Kiersey Clemons (Dope) as Iris West, Ciaran Hinds (Game of Thrones) as Steppenwolf and Julian Lewis Jones (Stella) in an as-yet-unrevealed role. It is set for release on November 17th 2017.
