Classic adventure Shadowgate comes to consoles next week

April 2, 2019 by Andrew Newton

The classic 1980’s adventure title, Shadowgate, will be arriving on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Playstation 4 on 11th April.  This tribute to the classic first person, point and click adventure is a port from the PC remake and is available to pre-order now from the Nintendo eShop and Xbox Games Store.

Thanks to Abstraction and original game directors at Zojoi, Shadowgate has been recreated to ensure it is every bit as authentic as the 1987 original with the deep fantasy story and the fiendishly difficult puzzles.  Although remaining true to the original the remake is a much larger game with more locations filled with story and puzzles, not only that, the art is much more stunning and provides a 2D hand drawn world that enhances every environment, item and puzzle.  For those wanting a truly authentic experience there will be the option to revert both the graphics and audio back to the original retro style.

Key features of the remake include:

  • First Person Adventuring: Utilise your inventory, mapping system and intuitive UI to complete your quest.
  • Dangerous Dungeons: Tons of beautifully illustrated rooms featuring both new and familiar locations, offering a fresh gameplay experience.
  • Mind-bending Puzzles: Lots of new and updated puzzles that seamlessly expand on the original game.
  • Difficulty Levels: Four different difficulty levels (from novice to expert) that actually change the gameplay experience and puzzle structure.
  • For the ultimate challenge, the Ironman mode disables saves and requires players to finish the game in one try.
  • Retro Mode: Play the game like it’s 1989! Toggle on to listen to Hiroyuki Masuno’s original chiptunes, move between rooms with pixelated transitions and follow the text in retro format.
  • Storytelling: Shadowgate features dramatic cut-scenes and all the same great storytelling you expect from the original creators.
  • Cinematic Score: A digitally-orchestrated, dynamic soundtrack that changes with gameplay by composer Rich Douglas.
  • Soundscapes: A complete atmospheric and puzzle-based sound design featuring hundreds of sound effects.

Shadowgate is available to pre-order now on the Nintendo eShop and Xbox Games Store with a 20% discount for a limited period.
