Colin Baker’s Bayban the Butcher returns in new The Worlds of Blake’s 7 audio drama

October 6, 2021 by Andrew Newton

Big Finish has announced that Bayban the Butcher will be returning to The Worlds of Blake’s 7 in a brand new audio drama this December.  Colin Baker will make his return as the career criminal that first appeared in the 1980 episode City at the Edge of the World, only this time he’s bigger and badder.

Bayban the Butcher first started his criminal career long before he encountered the Liberator crew in the Blake’s 7 episode, City at the Edge of the World.  Despite this encounter his criminal activities weren’t finished and over time his activities only became worse and he isn’t the forgiving type.  In The Worlds of Blake’s 7: Bayban the Butcher Jenna, Vila and Travis will find out why he is nicknamed the Butcher.

There will be three new exciting audio adventures within the The Worlds of Blake’s 7: Bayban the Butcher boxset, including:

  • Conscience by Katherine Armitage.
  • The Butcher’s Wife by Lizzie Hopley.
  • Vengeance Games by Lizbeth Myles.

Co-producer Peter Anghelides said: “I’ve always wanted to hear Bayban return in the Big Finish range. I once had the temerity to suggest on Twitter than Bayban’s demise in City at the Edge of the World was no reason to avoid bringing him into the series – and perhaps he could play Bayban’s dad? Colin Baker’s splendid response was: “Bayban’s Dad? BAYBAN’S DAD??? Why not younger brother – or even Bayban himself? I never believed he died you know…”  Well, almost a decade later, we are able to make it happen. Our inventive trio of adventures are set at different times in Bayban’s life: we see what he was like before his TV debut, shortly after it, and then once he has re-established himself as a threatening presence in the world of Blake’s 7.”

Colin Baker will be joined by other cast members from the beloved series, including Sally Knyvette as Captain Jenna Stannis, Stephen Greif as Travis and Michael Keating as Vila Restal.  Abigail Thaw will also join them as psychostrategist Hinton who first appeared in The Clone Masters box set.

The Worlds of Blake’s 7: Bayban the Butcher will release this December and is available to pre-order now from the Big Finish website as a collector’s edition CD box set at £19.99 or digital download at £16.99.
