Colin Farrell says his screen time as The Penguin in The Batman is very limited

When we all saw the first images of Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot, there was a collective shock. The actor has transformed for this upcoming role as The Penguin in The Batman, and it seems to be a memorable turn.

However, Farrell is teasing now that he might not be in the film as much as many expected and even goes as far as saying that The Penguin may only be in “five or six scenes.” Speaking with Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Farrell opened up about his time in the film:

“I’m only in it for five or six scenes, so I can’t wait to see the film because it won’t be ruined by my presence… Like really, it’s a freebie for me,” says Farrell. “I’ll get a little bit uncomfortable for the fucking nine minutes I have and then the rest of it. I cannot wait to see how he brought this world to life.”

As everyone knows, a small time on screen can make a giant impact, and there’s nothing that Farrell won’t be back for more Penguin mayhem in sequels, or even the HBO Max spinoff series. If Matt Reeves wants this Robert Pattinson-led Batman to work, building a universe with returning characters is the best way.

The Batman sees Robert Pattinson (The Lighthouse) donning the cape and cowl as Bruce Wayne/Batman alongside Zoe Kravitz (Big Little Lies) as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Colin Farrell (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Paul Dano (Escape at Dannemora) as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright (Westworld) as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis (War for the Planet of the Apes) as Alfred Pennyworth, John Turturro (The Big Lebowski) as Carmine Falcone, Alex Ferns (Chernobyl) as Commissioner Pete Savage, Con O’Neill (Ordinary Lies) as Chief Mackenzie Bock, Peter Sarsgaard (The Killing) as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson and Jayme Lawson (Farewell Amor) as Bella Real.

The Batman is due out on March 4th, 2022.
