Comic Book Review – Black Science #7

July 31, 2014 by Villordsutch

Villordsutch reviews Black Science #7 …

THE SECOND ARC OF THE SMASH SCI-FI HIT BEGINS HERE! The mystery of the onion’s truth unfolds the deeper one travels. The mythology of the Eververse unveils new truths and new dangers. The team is hurled to a seemingly alien world that holds the key to their true purpose. For what is magic but science that we don’t yet understand?

After a break of a few months, Black Science returns for the second story arc from Rick Remender, Matteo Scalera and Dean White.  For those that missed the sneak preview of this issue we gave you at the beginning of July here it is and as you can read from the blurb (attached to the preview) the dimension leaping team are going to be staying on one Earth this story arc, dealing with decisions made, betrayals, and chases with fish horses.

For those of you, like myself, who were snared by the initial story arc of Black Science, you will be as pleased as punch to see this comic return to the shelves of your local comic store (or online digital vendor) and for those of you yet to sample the unforgiving dimension skipping serial then you can step in now; yes you may scratch your head when Kadir appears and craves an insult, but you shouldn’t scratch at the red dinosaurs, or the shaman, or the telepathic millipede, as even regular readers will too be joining you in a good a head scratch here.

From the initial panel this issue is active and doesn’t stop until the final scenes, and regular readers will know Black Science isn’t built upon Unicorns, rainbows and happy endings.  It’s rare that our team members get out of a scrape without being smote and here, in this opening adventure, they have it no different as we are delivered a total gut punch which will have you all mouthing, “No!?”

I’m unsure where this story arc will lead us being set upon one planet Earth alone, but then I was unsure where the first story arc was heading being set on numerous planet Earths – so is there any difference?  Black Science is an exciting and different science fiction comic book, which you all really need to place upon your monthly reading list.

Villordsutch likes his sci-fi and looks like a tubby Viking according to his children. Visit his website and follow him on Twitter.
