Comic Book Review – Miami Vice: Remix #3

May 20, 2015 by Andrew Newton

Andrew Newton reviews Miami Vice: Remix #3…

The new street drug that’s zombified the citizens of Miami is pushing the Miami PD to its limits! Crockett and Tubbs may be the city’s only hope, but the past come back to haunt them and demand payment in blood…

Last issue, Miami Vice: Remix provided us with an image we never expected to see in Miami Vice in a million years, Sonny Crockett taking on a zombie like creature.  It was pure brilliance if only for the fact it was something that even the most wildest fan fiction had never thought of.  Issue 2 also ended with Crockett returning home to find poor Elvis strung up by the tail and a mysterious person waiting for him.  In this issue we will find out who this mysterious person is and what his intentions are.  The main story of the new drug sweeping through the city also continues and things are steadily getting worse as more and more people take the drug.  What are Crockett and Tubbs’ plans to combat this new threat?

Joe Casey’s storyline has grown on me over the past 3 issues. It’s different and quirky and with it being a remix is not constrained by the boundaries of the TV show.

The artwork by Jim Mahfood and the colours by Justin Stewart really do capture the spirit of the 1980’s with the clothes drawn perfectly in that periods fashions and the usage of neon blues and pinks etc.

This is a series that has grown and developed over the issues to become one of my favourite reads.  It’s well worth giving this series a try even if you are a Miami Vice purist.
