Comic Book Review – Shotgun Wedding #4

April 23, 2014 by Villordsutch

Villordsutch Reviews Shotgun Wedding #4…

Mike Stone wants nothing more than to marry the woman of his dreams. Denise is smart, sexy, teaches the second grade, and loves Mike more than anything in the world. What she doesn’t know is that Mike is one of the world’s top assassins and was once engaged to a fellow assassin named Chloe. And when Mike abandoned Chloe on their wedding day, she vowed revenge.

We’ve come to an end, rather rapidly, of this excellent if not short series of Shotgun Wedding.  During the past month William Harris (writer) and Edward Pun (artist) have delivered three blasts of an estranged psychotic ex-fiancé who happens to be assassin, an eBay buying antique dealing supposed ex-assassin, a Torturing Turk, a league of assassins and a school teacher (not an assassin); within this fourth and final issue we are given all of this with extra bullets and we are not let down at all.

Though not a lot seems to occur in terms of story, due to the action taking place, it doesn’t remove any sort of power whatsoever from what is delivered to us. It’s still impressive and to be honest somewhat not what I was expecting to be given to me at the end.

We see the final moments, four years back, of Chloe and Mike’s relationship as Clint breaks the news the Chloe was turned by the Turk. Though we are not told how Clint is made aware of this knowledge, but as we know Mike quickly departs, cutting back to present day we see how professional Mike actually is and how quickly he dispatches the new-wave of assassins before the confrontation with Chloe as she holds an shotgun in front of Denise’s head.  It’s tense, there’s drama and a heart is broken forever.

We come to a conclusion which, to be honest, could be the actual end of the Shotgun Wedding series forever; having witnessed four great issues, we can brag to those who missed it, and what they have missed.  A fantastic ending to such an excellent series of comics, which I was glad that I could read.

Villordsutch likes his sci-fi and looks like a tubby Viking according to his children. Visit his website and follow him on Twitter.
