Comic Book Review – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe #14

I’m going to be really honest with you all. Some of you have hopefully been reading my TMNT reviews for a whole now, and you’ll have noticed that on the whole they’re pretty damn glowing.

IDW being so consistent brings some real problems. Namely, when it is usually so good, what more can you say, unless you delve heavily into spoilers? I’ll try regardless!

Like the issues leading up to it, TMNT Universe #14 is yet another solid month’s worth of story. Koya is still winding me up, whilst Bludgeon is becoming pretty cool. I wonder if he could make a shift at some point. Speaking of cool, I really like Ocho. What a big son a gun she is, and what a good fight. I particularly liked Karai attempting a Mortal Kombat style uppercut. Suffice to say it doesn’t lead to a KO.

Bit ashamed to say I assumed Ocho was a he until I found out differently in the backup story. Typical white man attitude! Assuming male unless given specific traits to follow! That’s all on me, and a lesson for the future.

The artwork is very pretty, a given with Sophie Campbell on board. It’s almost dull of me to say that, but credit where it’s due. I love a good “swish” on a panel.

I am curious why large parts of the dialogue are still in <>. Three issues in I know they’re speaking in Japanese. Just a thought that stuck in my head.

Well would you look at that, I’ve reviewed the issue. More of the good stuff. I just need to give it more thought.
