The Conjuring 2 gets a new release date

November 12, 2014 by Robert Kojder

Originally published November 12, 2014. Updated April 12, 2018.

Not long after its delay, New Line has announced a new release date of June 10th, 2016 for The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist. An interesting note is that both Now You See Me 2 and Sony’s film adaptation of the Uncharted video game franchise are also slated for release on that date, so expect either one of the three to get bumped, or simply a loaded weekend of movies. Seeing as how the original took home an impressive $318 million worldwide, the sequel shouldn’t be taken as light competition.

Unlike the poorly received spin-off prequel Annabelle, The Conjuring 2 will have most of its original production team returning, from director James Wan, to writers Chad and Carey Hayes, to paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren portrayed by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. In other words, there should be a modest level of excitement amongst horror aficionados.

Details on the plot are scarce at this time, but the film is expected to start shooting early next summer.
