Corey Hawkins joins Dracula film The Last Voyage of the Demeter

January 28, 2021 by Ricky Church

It has been a long time since we’ve heard about Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark’s André Øvredal’s Dracula-inspired The Last Voyage of the Demeter, but we finally have an update as Deadline has word the first of the movie’s first casting with Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton) joining the film.

The Last Voyage of the Demeter follows a single chapter in Bram Stroker’s classic horror novel Dracula where the famed vampire makes the journey by to London by sea, feasting on the unsuspecting crew of the Demeter during the voyage. People in the town find the derelict ship in the harbour and read the Captain’s account of the journey in his log, but assume he had gone a bit mad with his ravings of a monster onboard.

The official synopsis reads the film “will detail the strange events that befell the doomed crew as they attempt to survive the ocean voyage, stalked each night by a terrifying presence onboard the ship. When it finally arrived near Whitby Harbor, it was a derelict. There was no trace of the crew.”

The script was originally written in 2002 by screenwriter Bragi Schut (Season of the Witch) and has had several homes and attached directors over the years. The Last Voyage of the Demeter will be produced by Bradley Fischer, Mike Medavoy and Arnold Messer for Amblin.
