Cowabunga? New Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie reboot in the works

June 20, 2018 by Matt Rodgers

Having rebooted the live-action adventures of the Heroes in a Half Shell as recently as 2014’s $493m grossing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Paramount is apparently already looking to perform a radical reset on the franchise.

According to THR, the studio have hired Andrew Dodge, who was responsible for Jason Bateman spelling bee comedy Bad Words, to write the script, with Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes producing the film.

Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird’s creations have gone through a few iterations on the big screen; from the phenomenally successful 1990’s effort, which was the biggest grossing independent movie of all time upon release, through the subsequent sequels, which were only really notable for Vanilla Ice’s appearance in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Secret of the Ooze.

The move comes as a reaction to 2016’s abysmal Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, which bombed with both critics and audiences alike, topping out with an underwhelming $245 million worldwide gross.

The question remains, after such a short hiatus, and with the sour taste of stale pizza that was Out of the Shadows still in our mouths, do we really want to see Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael so soon? Unless they do a cover of Turtle Power for it, we’re not so sure. Let us know what you think in the comments section…
