Crazy Rich Asians 2 to be written by Amy Wang

March 22, 2022 by Ricky Church

The sequel to the 2018 hit Crazy Rich Asians has found a new writer. According to Deadline, Amy Wang (Brothers Sun) has been tapped to write the script for the anticipated sequel.

Crazy Rich Asians starred Constance Wu and Henry Golding as Wu’s Rachel travelled to Singapore to meet her boyfriend Nick’s family and discovered they are among the wealthiest socialites in Asia. As Rachel and Nick’s relationship deepens, she has to work hard to earn the approval of Nick’s mother and family matriarch Eleanor, played by Michelle Yeoh.

The film was based on the 2013 book of the same name by Kevin Kwan and is the first of a trilogy. The second book, China Rich Girlfriend, was released in 2015 and while it has not been fully confirmed, the second film is likely to follow the plot of the book while a third movie is also planned.

Wang comes onboard the film following the departure of original screenwriters Peter Chiarelli and Adele Lim after it was revealed Lim earned 10 times less than Chiarelli despite their co-writing credit. Director John Chu publicly supported Lim and tried to mediate between Lim and Warner Bros. executives, but Lim decided to walk away.

Wang serves as story editor on Netflix’s Brothers Sun and has also written for the streamers From Scratch. Wang is also a director and is currently writing and directing a horror film for Paramount.
