Damian Lewis rumoured to be unofficially in place as next James Bond

September 28, 2015 by Tom Beasley

Homeland actor Damian Lewis is set to be the next actor to take on the role of Ian Fleming’s iconic spy James Bond, according to a report in the Sunday Mirror.

According to the paper, Lewis is “in prime position” to take on the role and has been given the “unofficial nod” that the part is his when current star Daniel Craig chooses to step down.

Speculation has been rife in recent weeks regarding potential successors to Daniel Craig ahead of the release of the latest Bond film Spectre, with major stars such as Idris Elba (Beasts of No Nation) and Tom Hardy (Legend) consistently in the frame.

Big names within the Bond fraternity have spoken out on casting rumours, with author Anthony Horowitz declaring Elba “too street” for the role and former Bond actor Pierce Brosnan stating that he believes the next lead will be a white man.

Spectre, the 24th James Bond film, is set for release in the UK on October 23rd in the UK and November 6th in the States.
