It came as a big surprise when Warner Bros. decided to replace composer Junkie XL with the iconic Danny Elfman to score the Justice League film. Elfman needs no introduction – or if he does, then you’ve just lost your geek-credentials. His Batman ’89 — and later Batman: The Animated Series — score is the most famous superhero theme in history, and it is simply mind-altering to hear that melody in a brand new DC film decades later.
However, it’s not the famous Bat-theme that Elfman is most proud of in the film, nor is it being able to use the famous John Williams’ Superman score; his favorite was actually an original melody altogether. Speaking to DC All Access, the composer goes into detail:
“It was fun. It was a huge puzzle coming into it. It was like a science project, but there’s a sequence at the end that really I think was the most fun for me, where it ties all the characters together and you have a moment with each of the characters, and using a single thematic throughline tying it all together was, I felt my best accomplishment for bringing something to the film.”
