In a rather surprising move, iconic composer Danny Elfman has now joined Justice League to compose the film’s score, per The Hollywood Reporter. He’s joined the film just as Joss Whedon takes the director’s chair for some reshoots and additional scenes in London.
Elfman is no stranger to composing superhero themes. He worked on Tim Burton’s Batman, creating one of the most iconic movie themes ever, as well as the sequel Batman Returns. He also composed the scores for Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2, once again creating memorable themes. Elfman also has experience working with Whedon, coming in late on Avengers: Age of Ultron‘s production to add to Brian Tyler’s score.
Before departing the film due to a family tragedy, Zack Snyder was working with Junkie XL on the film’s score. He had composed the score for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with Hans Zimmer, helping create the new theme for Batman as well as Wonder Woman. He is now moving onto Tomb Raider, according to THR, but its unknown if Elfman is starting from scratch or merely adding to the score as he did for Avengers. We’ll see later this year just how much influence Elfman has with the music.
