Daredevil season 3 adds Joanne Whalley as Sister Maggie

January 25, 2018 by Ricky Church

While we don’t know the premiere date for the third season of Netflix’s Daredevil just yet, we have more news on who will appear in the season. According to Deadline, the show has cast Joanne Whalley (The White Princess) in the role of Sister Maggie.

Daredevil fans will know the name Sister Maggie from the ‘Born Again’ storyline by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli, a fan-favourite storyline that reinvented Daredevil in the 80s. Season 3 will be influenced by the storyline, as hinted at in the final moments of The Defenders where Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock, who was thought to have died in the events of the finale, wakes up in a convent with a nun telling someone to “get Maggie”. Maggie helps heal Matt back to health, but has a deep connection to his past.

Daredevil‘s third season sees Erik Oleson showrunning the new season, replacing Marco Ramirez and Doug Petrie from Season 2. Returning with Cox is Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, aka The Kingpin.

“We are big fans of Joanne’s work and are fortunate that someone of her caliber will be joining our already talented family,” said Marvel TV boss and Daredevil EP Jeph Loeb.

“Joanne is a rare talent and a terrific creative collaborator,” said Oleson. “Watching her bring her role to life has the writers all pinching ourselves.”
