Dave Bautista and Samuel L. Jackson set for apocalyptic actioner Afterburn

February 7, 2024 by Matt Rodgers

Dave Bautista and Samuel L. Jackson have signed on to star in apocalyptic action-adventure Afterburn, an adaptation of the Red 5 Comics miniseries to be directed by J.J. Perry.

Set a decade after a solar flare has disrupted all technology across the globe, Bautista will take on the role of Jake, an ex-soldier turned treasure hunter who teams up with a weapons expert named Drea in order to track down the Mona Lisa.

According to Deadline Samuel L. Jackson will star in a supporting role to the Guardians of the Galaxy actor, playing a freedom fighter named Valentine.

A long-time passion project for producers Neal H. Moritz (Fast and Furious) and Toby Jaffe (Total Recall), Afterburn was originally announced way back in 2018 as a potential franchise starter for Gerard Butler, but that iteration of the graphic novel never came to fruition.

Perry, a second-unit director and stunt coordinator on the John Wick franchise, has just completed action-comedy The Killer’s Game, which also stars Bautista alongside Ice Cube and Sofia Boutella.
