David Dastmalchian joins Dune in villain role

Deadline is reporting that Ant-Man and the Wasp and Bird Box actor David Dastmalchian has becom ethe latest addition to the cast of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune.

Dastmalchian is set to portray the character of Piter De Vries, a clever and cunning Mentat (a human trained to perform mental functions rivalling computers) and a servant of the villainouss Baron Vladimir Harkonnen.

Timothee Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name) leads the cast of the Frank Herbert adaptation as Paul Atreides, a member of a noble family in control of Arrakis, a desert planet which is the galaxy’s only source of a rare and highly valuable spice drug. Betrayed by a galactic emperor, Paul then leads a rebellion to restore his family’s control over the planet.

Villeneuve has assembled a stellar cast for the adaptation, which includes Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Fallout), Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Dave Bautista (Avengers: Infinity War), Stellan Skarsgard (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again), Charlotte Rampling (Red Sparrow), Zendaya (Spider-Man: Homecoming), Javier Bardem (Loving Pablo), Jason Momoa (Aquaman) and Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame).

Dune is set for release on November 20th 2020.
